"Do you check your stars?" [Sep. 27th, 2009|12:21 am]

Do you believe in astrology? If so, how often do you check your horoscope and how does it impact your life? If not, do you get annoyed when people make assumptions about you based on your sign?

Yes.  It's something I grew up with.  My mother was an astrologer.  She studied under Martin Shulman.

I don't check my horoscope, but I do get my chart read every so often.

I have a fairly interesting chart.  Venus and Saturn in Aries kick my ass on the regular.

What Did We Do Before The Internet??? [Feb. 17th, 2009|08:41 pm]

Awww, someone on the Tripadvisor.com Bogota forum responded to my query about changing money and taxi queue situation at the airport:

When you leave the luggage pick up area of the airport, you can find on the right hand side a place to change money.

Then you can leave the airport (look for the doors that have a lot of people waiting outside them) and walk immediately to the right hand side and around the corner to find the taxi booth.

Tell the worker there where you want to go (or show them on paper the name of your hotel). They will give you a receipt and put you in the next available taxi. You pay the amount on the receipt to the driver. This is the official taxi booth at the airport so you don't need to worry about getting ripped off.

It is really quick easy and painless.

If you have trouble finding the taxi booth just ask any airport employee. In spanish:

"Where can I get a taxi"

"Donde puedo coger un taxi"

(Don-day pway-doh co-hair un taxi)

----

{ and then they posted this addendum}

Oh, and don't take any taxi offered to you by the crowd just outside the doors. Only use an offical airport taxi from the booth. It's a bit safer that way.

Okay, I'm already over this crappy Biggie movie!!!

Make the commercials go away, please.

It's crazy to me that he's been dead for 10+ years already.

I kinda miss those days.  They were fun, but really stoopid.

At least I had sense enough to stay alive.

Peace.

The Best Pie I Have Ever Tasted [May. 29th, 2008|03:21 pm]
[Tags|]

RHUBARB SOUR CREAM PIE

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crust
  • 3 cups chopped fresh rhubarb
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ground cinnamon to taste
  • ground ginger to taste
  • dash of salt
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour

For Topping

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted

DIRECTIONS

  1. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F (220 degrees C).
  2. Press the pie crust into a 9 inch pie pan. Spread rhubarb in an even layer in the bottom of the crust. In a medium bowl, whisk together the egg, white sugar, sour cream and 1/3 cup of flour until smooth. Season with cinnamon and ginger to taste and a dash of salt.  Pour over the rhubarb.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup of flour and brown sugar. Stir in melted butter until the mixture is crumbly. Sprinkle over the top of the pie.
  4. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Continue to bake for 40 minutes, or until the edges have puffed, and the topping is golden. The center may still be slightly jiggly. Cool completely before slicing and serving.
NOTES:
  • If you want it sweeter, increase recipe to 1.5 cups of sugar
  • I use less processed, demerara sugar as opposed to bleached white sugar
